Important message from your legislators: SB335 is now law. Provides that every hospital, fire station, emergency medical facility, and police station that is required to accept a relinquished newborn infant in accordance with the Act must post a sign in a conspicuous place on the exterior of the building housing the facility informing persons that a newborn infant may be relinquished at the facility in accordance with the Act. Requires the Department of Children and Family Services to prescribe specifications for the signs and for their placement that will ensure statewide uniformity. Effective immediately.

The State of Illinois recently passed SB335 requiring all Illinois Safe Havens to display a uniform sign to visually help identify their location as a Safe Haven.  Per Illinois law, state-designated Safe Havens are all hospitals, police stations, manned fire stations, and emergency medical care facilities.

The Save Abandoned Babies Foundation has made arrangements to produce the Safe Haven sign for use throughout Illinois.  All Illinois Safe Havens must display this uniform sign.  Signs are $30 each. The Save Abandoned Babies Foundation has a small budget to help provide signs for municipalities unable to bear the cost of signage. Contact Aileen Robinson for more information.

Signs are 18” X 18” and made with 3M Scotchlite vinyl on .080 thick aluminum.  They are guaranteed for a minimum of 7 – 10 years of outdoor use. To view the approved sign, click here: Safe Haven Sign

With the goal of reducing the number of unsafe infant abandonments, we respectfully ask you to comply early by displaying the Safe Haven sign on your facility.  Together we CAN make a difference.
