Safe Haven Sign Order Form

SB335 was signed into law in August 2007. This law "provides that every hospital, fire station, emergency medical facility, and police station (INCLUDING SHERIFF DEPARTMENTS) that is required to accept a relinquished newborn infant in accordance with the Act must post a sign in a conspicuous place on the exterior of the building housing the facility informing persons that a newborn infant may be relinquished at the facility in accordance with the Act. Requires the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) to prescribe specifications for the signs and for their placement that will ensure statewide uniformity. Effective immediately."

DCFS has recently issued a directive on these signs to professional law, fire, and hospital associations and organizations. If you would like to see this directive, contact your respective organization, or email us at info@SaveAbandonedBabies.org. We are happy to e-mail or fax a copy to you.

Of note is that they have addressed the issue of facilities not open 24 hours a day by adding the language "Only When Staff Members are Present" to all signs. If your facility has already ordered signs, a reflective tape strip will be sent to you with this language. Simply attach it to the bottom portion of your existing sign. All new sign orders will include the additional language.
